Mission Shakti Innovation: ISKCON Mid-Day Meal Now Served to GGIC Chunniganj Girls of Classes 9–12

Kanpur: In a pioneering initiative under Mission Shakti, the Government Girls Inter College (GGIC) Chunniganj in Kanpur has become the first school in Uttar Pradesh to provide free mid-day meals to students of classes 9 to 12. The program, guided by CM Yogi Adityanath, marks a significant expansion of the state’s existing mid-day meal scheme, previously limited to classes 6 to 8.

The initiative ensures that 456 senior school girls now receive nutritious meals daily, prepared with support from ISKCON Kanpur and the Achintya Foundation. District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh inaugurated the program by dining with the students, highlighting the collaboration between administration and society to improve student health and attendance.

School Principal Manglam Gupta noted that while attendance for classes 6 to 8 is over 80%, senior classes had only about 50% attendance. The mid-day meal is expected to improve both nutrition and school participation among older students.

ISKCON representative Amritesh Krishna Das confirmed the daily meal supply, while Achintya Foundation director Abhishek Agarwal said the program will cost approximately Rs 20 lakh annually, supported through community and organizational contributions.

The weekly meal menu is designed for both nutrition and variety:

*Monday: Kadhi Pakora, Potato-Parwal, Rice, Roti
*Tuesday:* Rice, Moong Dal, Roti, Soya Potato
*Wednesday:* Rice, Arhar Dal, Roti, Chana Potato
*Thursday:* Rice, Moong Dal Chilka, Roti, Potato Sitaphal
*Friday:* Rice, Roti, Chole, Halwa
*Saturday:* Rice, Rajma, Mixed Vegetables, Roti

District authorities noted that this initiative aligns with *Mission Shakti’s vision* of integrating education with nutrition and community participation. If successful, this model may be expanded to other schools across the district.

Officials including DIOS Santosh Kumar Rai, social worker Disha Arora, and several students attended the event.
